The Maple Leaf, Banff

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to take a small trip to Banff. I love the mountains and I also haven’t been to Banff in years, so this was a treat. Also, my boyfriend doesn’t like driving long distances, so for him to suggest going on a trip was really sweet :)

So since we only stayed for one night, we decided to randomly choose a restaurant while strolling down the town of Banff. We chose The Maple Leaf because my boyfriend was craving steak. I had already looked up the restaurants in Banff so I knew this would be a good choice. 

Walking into the restaurant, at first it seems to be pretty small but then I realized they had an upper level. We were seated in the small area on the main floor. I didn’t really like where we were sitting because it was quite close to the door so whenever customers came in, I could feel a drift. 

Onto the food! First we ordered the Thai Mussels in a coconut broth. (Excuse the bad quality pictures. I only had my iPhone on me)

This was delicious! It was very flavourful, especially with the Thai flavours. Not too bland, not too salty. These mussels are near the top of my list in terms of flavour (my favourite mussel appetizer is from Sicilian Pasta Kitchen Downtown). The only down side was that one of my mussels had a LOT of sand, but it was just one out of the bunch. Nothing to worry about though. Oh, and the flatbread on top of the mussels were SO delicious. Had nice garlic butter flavour with parmasen cheese. Mmmm. 

For entrees, I ordered the Brome Lake Duck and my boyfriend ordered the NY Strip. 
 

My duck was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and the meat came off the bone nicely. Very flavourful as well. I love duck, whether it’s Chinese BBQ duck or gourmet duck dishes like this one! There’s something about the flavour that I just love. Kind of like how lamb has a distinct taste, duck also has one as well. The veggies were also nicely grilled and tasty as well. I was pretty full because I ate too much bread lol. I had underestimated the size of my duck!

My boyfriend’s NY steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I had a bite of it and it was pretty juicy. But that’s all I can say about it lol. My boyfriend did enjoy his steak though; he said it was very good!

We didn’t order any dessert because we were so stuffed. But overall, The Maple Leaf did not disappoint. I would definitely visit again in the future and would recommend it if you’re visiting Banff :)
